IIT Gandhinagar Registrar Recruitment 2026 Overview

IIT Gandhinagar has announced recruitment for the post of Registrar under Advertisement No. IITGN/STAFF/RECT/01/2026-27. The institute has invited online applications from Indian nationals for appointment on direct recruitment or deputation basis.

Vacancy, Pay Level and Appointment Term

• At least 8 years of experience as Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in Academic Pay Level 12 or its equivalent or higher pay level, with considerable experience in administration at institutions of higher education or research.
• Comparable experience in research establishments or other institutions of higher education.

Deputation Eligibility

The notification also allows appointment on deputation basis. This route is meant for officers serving in government or similar public institutions who meet the prescribed administrative level requirements.

• Officers under the Central Government, State Governments, Universities, Recognized Research Institutes or Institutes of National Importance are eligible.
• The candidate should be holding an analogous post, or should have at least three years of regular administrative service in posts with Pay Level 13 or equivalent.

Candidates applying on deputation must apply through proper channel and also submit an online application. The online application is treated only as an advance copy unless the proper channel documents reach in time.

Desirable Qualifications and Preferred Profile

Beyond the minimum eligibility, IIT Gandhinagar has listed a preferred profile. These points matter because the institute may shortlist only stronger applicants for the next stage.

• Preferably a first-class academic record from the 10th standard onwards, meaning 60% or equivalent grade and above.
• Any additional degree or diploma in Law or Management from a recognized university or institute.
• Proven ability in administration, preferably in a large educational or research institution.
• Experience in financial or personnel management with the capacity to lead administration in a residential research and development institution.
• Competence in computer skills and all forms of communication.

Age Limit and Age Preference

The upper age limit for the post is 58 years as on the closing date of receipt of online application. This is the main official age cap for the post.

Documents Required

• Hindi or English transcript attested by a Gazetted Officer or Notary if any document is in another language.

If the NOC and vigilance clearance are not uploaded during application, the candidate must produce them at the time of written test or interview, failing which he or she will not be allowed to appear in the selection process.

Selection Process

The notification does not fix a single-stage selection pattern in advance. Instead, it clearly states that merely meeting the minimum eligibility criteria does not guarantee a call for the next stage.

• The institute will shortlist candidates on the basis of better qualifications and quality of relevant experience.
• Shortlisted candidates may be called for written test and or interview.
• The institute reserves the right not to call an applicant for the selection process.
• The institute also reserves the right not to fill the position or to cancel the advertisement at any stage without assigning a reason.
