How UCEED Seat Allotment Works

UCEED does not allot seats only on the basis of rank. The official process considers four things together: the candidate's All India Rank, reservation category, availability of seats in each participating institute, and the order of institute preferences entered in the common BDes application form.

This means a candidate with a strong rank can still miss a higher preference if that institute's seats are already filled within the relevant category. Similarly, a candidate who chose the institutes in a different preference order may receive a different allotment result than another candidate with a similar rank.

The provisional allotment letter is therefore the key document after allotment. Candidates should read the institute name, category, and payment instructions carefully before taking any action.

UCEED Fees You Need to Know Right Now

For this stage of admission, candidates usually need to understand three different fee components: the BDes admission application fee, the seat acceptance fee after allotment, and the institute fee that is finally payable at the time of joining.

UCEED 2026 Seat Matrix for Participating Institutes

The official UCEED 2026 seat allotment page shows 245 total BDes seats across seven participating institutes for the academic year 2026-27.

The same official seat matrix also shows category-wise totals as follows: Open 94, Open-PwD 3, EWS 24, EWS-PwD 2, OBC-NCL 61, OBC-NCL-PwD 5, SC 35, SC-PwD 2, ST 18 and ST-PwD 1. PwD reservation is horizontal and the unfilled PwD seats return to the original category.

Reporting Steps After Round 1 Allotment

If you are allotted a seat in Round 1, follow the sequence carefully instead of waiting for later clarification.

1. Open the provisional allotment letter sent to your registered email and verify the allotted institute and category.

2. Decide whether to accept the seat and pay the seat acceptance fee within the Round 1 deadline.

3. Choose the appropriate response if the portal provides freeze or float options.

4. Keep all academic, rank, category and identity documents ready for institute-level verification.

5. Follow the admitting institute's joining instructions after the counselling stage is complete.

The official brochure makes it clear that the offer remains provisional until the required fees are paid, the documents are duly verified, and the remaining formalities are completed.

Freeze, Float, Withdrawal and Refund Rules

If a candidate gets the first-choice institute, the options are normally to accept and freeze the seat or decline it. If a candidate is allotted the second, third, fourth or fifth choice, the candidate can usually either freeze that seat or accept it with float for upward movement in later rounds.

• If you do not pay the seat acceptance fee by the deadline, the allotted seat is cancelled and you will not be considered for later rounds.

• Candidates who choose float and later get a higher-preference institute automatically lose the earlier accepted seat.

• The seat acceptance fee is paid only once. If a floated seat is upgraded later, the candidate does not pay it again.

For candidates who pay the seat acceptance fee in Rounds 1 and 2, withdrawal is allowed within the prescribed schedule. The official refund amount is ₹55,000 for GEN, EWS and OBC-NCL candidates and ₹10,000 for SC, ST and PwD candidates, after deducting ₹5,000 as seat cancellation and processing charges. Fees paid in Rounds 3, 4 and 5 are not refunded.

Documents and Verification After Allotment

The official BDes application instructions say candidates were required to upload digital copies of photograph, signature, UCEED score card, Class 12 or equivalent mark sheet, and category-related documents wherever applicable. During admission, the admitting institutes conduct document verification for each candidate.

Keep the following ready after allotment:

• UCEED 2026 score card

• Class 12 mark sheet or qualifying examination proof

• Category certificate for EWS, OBC-NCL, SC or ST, if applicable

Candidates who first appeared for the qualifying examination in 2024 or earlier are not eligible.

The participating institutes for joint BDes seat allotment are IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Indore, IIT Roorkee and IIITDM Jabalpur. Science stream candidates with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics can apply to all seven participating institutes.
