OPSC Assistant Professor Radiation Oncology 2026 overview

OPSC has invited online applications for 2 posts of Assistant Professor (Broad Speciality) in Radiation Oncology. These are Group-A posts under the Odisha Medical Education Service cadre for appointment in Government Medical College Hospitals in Odisha under the Health & Family Welfare Department.

Vacancy details and reservation position

The advertisement notes that, as per government requisition, there are no vacancies reserved in this recruitment for SC, ST, SEBC, PwD, Ex-Servicemen, Sports Person or Women categories. The number of vacancies may still change if the Government decides so.

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible for direct recruitment, a candidate must possess a postgraduate degree in the concerned broad speciality or any other equivalent qualification prescribed by MCI or NMC from time to time. Candidates who have undergone Diplomate of National Board training in the concerned subject are also eligible subject to the conditions prescribed by MCI or NMC.

For Radiation Oncology, the accepted pathways are:

• M.D. or M.S. in Radiotherapy or Radiation Oncology with 1 year post-PG Senior Residency in Radiation Oncology or Radiotherapy.
• DNB in Radiotherapy or Radiation Oncology from an institution having 500 or more beds from an NMC or MCI recognized M.D. or M.S. Radiotherapy course, with 1 year post-PG Senior Residency in Radiation Oncology or Radiotherapy.
• DNB in Radiotherapy or Radiation Oncology from an institution having less than 500 beds, with 2 years post-PG Senior Residency in Radiation Oncology or Radiotherapy in an NMC or MCI recognized, permitted or approved Medical College.

Before appointment, the selected candidate must register under the Odisha Medical Registration Act, 1961.

Age limit and relaxation

A candidate must be at least 21 years old and must not be above 45 years as on 1 January 2026. In other words, the candidate must not have been born earlier than 2 January 1981 and not later than 1 January 2005.

The upper age limit is relaxable by 5 years for Women and Ex-Servicemen and by 10 years for persons with disabilities whose permanent disability is 40 percent or more. The upper age limit is also relaxable up to 5 years for in-service doctors serving on ad hoc basis or contractual basis under the Government or Government undertakings. Where a candidate falls under more than one category, only one age relaxation benefit can be used.

Selection process and exam pattern

Selection will be made on the basis of a written test. The recruitment notice provides the following exam structure:

Candidates securing the qualifying marks decided by the Commission will be shortlisted for document verification up to twice the number of advertised vacancies in the category, subject to a minimum of 5 candidates if required.

Merit preparation and tie-breaking rules

The Commission will prepare the merit list on the basis of the written test. If two candidates secure equal marks, the candidate with higher marks in the MBBS examination will rank above the other. If MBBS marks are also the same, the older candidate will be placed higher.

The advertisement also states that when two candidates secure equal marks and one of them is a native or resident of Odisha while the other is not, preference will be given to the native or resident of Odisha. The recommended list remains valid for one year from the date of approval by the Government.

Salary, service conditions and posting

The post carries Academic Level-12 of the ORSP (MCT) Rules, 2019 along with usual dearness and other allowances as sanctioned by the Government of Odisha from time to time. The post is under the Odisha Medical Education Service cadre and posting will be in Government Medical College Hospitals of Odisha.

The advertisement also notes that persons appointed under the Government of Odisha on or after 1 January 2005 are covered by the defined contributory pension scheme in accordance with the Odisha Civil Services pension amendment rules. The advertisement specifically warns that if a candidate wants to modify submitted information, the earlier application has to be cancelled and a fresh application must be submitted within the last date. Applications through any mode other than the online portal will not be accepted.

Other important instructions

• The candidate must be a citizen of India.
• Government servants may apply if they possess the qualification and age eligibility and inform their Head of Office in writing.
• Admission to the written examination will be provisional.
• Certificate of admission for the written examination will be uploaded on the OPSC website before the exam.
• The provisional answer key is to be uploaded on the website within 10 days after the examination for objections, if any.
• Incomplete applications, wrong information, non-payment of fee where applicable, or missing required documents can lead to rejection.
• Any complaint regarding conduct of examination must be sent to the grievance wing within 7 days of completion of the examination.
