SSB SI Recruitment 2026 for 51 Posts: Eligibility, Vacancy, Fee and Status

Recruitment Overview and Current Status

This recruitment is for 51 Sub-Inspector posts in Sashastra Seema Bal under the Ministry of Home Affairs. The notified posts are SI (Staff Nurse), SI (Pioneer) and SI (Communication). All three are Group 'B' Non-Gazetted (Combatised), Non-Ministerial posts.

The official recruitment advertisement was published through the Ministry of Home Affairs vacancy page and reflected on the SSB recruitment portal. The official SSB advertisements page showed the application window from 21 March 2026 to 20 April 2026, and the listing is now shown as closed. If SSB issues any amendment, fresh notice, admit card schedule or stage-wise update, candidates should treat only the official SSB portals as authoritative.

Another important point from the notification is that a candidate could apply for only one post out of these three SI posts under this advertisement.

Post-wise Vacancy Breakup

The notification divides the 51 vacancies across three SI streams. The post-wise and category-wise breakup is as follows.

The notification also states that 10% vacancies are reserved for Ex-Servicemen. As with most central recruitment notifications, SSB reserves the right to increase, decrease, fill or not fill the vacancies.

Age Limit and Relaxation

The upper age limit for all three posts is the same: not exceeding 30 years. The notification ties the crucial date for age and eligibility to the closing date for receipt of applications.

The notification also provides additional relaxations for certain categories such as eligible J&K/Ladakh domiciles for the specified period and eligible children/dependents of 1984 riot victims. Candidates claiming relaxation must produce the prescribed certificate format at the documentation stage.

Post-wise Educational Qualification

The qualification requirements are different for each post, so candidates need to match their application carefully to the correct stream.

Before treating yourself as eligible, read the exact wording in the notification, especially for SI (Staff Nurse), because the acceptable nursing diploma structure is linked to the period in which the candidate qualified.

Important Dates, Fee and Application Mode

Applications sent through any mode other than online are not accepted. The notification also makes it clear that the fee is non-refundable.

If SSB reopens the application process or issues any extension or corrigendum, it should be checked only on recruitment.ssb.gov.in or ssb.gov.in, not assumed from third-party listings.

Selection Process

The selection process is stage-based and does not end with a written examination alone. Candidates whose applications are found in order are issued admit cards and called to the recruitment process.

There is one important exception in the first stage. PET is not conducted for SI (Staff Nurse) and SI (Pioneer). PET is conducted only for SI (Communication). Ex-Servicemen are exempted from PET but still have to appear in other applicable stages.

The notification further states that candidates shortlisted for documentation and DME/RME can be called up to three times the number of vacancies category-wise, based on written examination merit.

PST applies to eligible candidates for all three posts. The physical standard tables in the notification are detailed and include category and region-based relaxations. The main unrelaxed standards are:

The notification provides separate relaxed standards for Scheduled Tribes and for specified communities and regions such as Garhwalis, Kumaonis, Gorkhas, Dogras, Marathas, certain North Eastern states, Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh categories, and other notified groups. Candidates seeking relaxation in height or chest must produce the required community certificate at the PST stage.

Weight should be proportionate to height and age as per the notification annexure. Overweight or underweight candidates may face disqualification during the medical stage even if they clear PST.

Written Examination Pattern and Merit

Candidates who qualify PST move to the Computer Based Test. The written examination is common in structure for the notified SI posts.

Paper structure:

Minimum qualifying marks are 50% for General, EWS, OBC and Ex-Servicemen, and 45% for SC and ST candidates.

Final merit is prepared on the basis of marks obtained in the written examination, subject to candidates clearing later stages. If two candidates score equal marks, the notification gives priority to higher marks in Part II, then seniority in age, and then alphabetical order of names in English.

Pay Scale, Posting and Service Conditions

All three notified SI posts carry Level-6 pay in the 7th CPC pay matrix, which means a basic pay range of Rs 35,400 to Rs 1,12,400.

In addition to basic pay, the notification mentions Dearness Allowance, Ration Money Allowance, House Rent Allowance and other admissible allowances as per SSB and Government of India rules. Pension coverage is to be governed under the applicable contributory pension or unified pension framework for new entrants, as per prevailing rules.

These are combatised central force posts. Selected candidates are liable to serve anywhere in India or outside the territory of India. Candidates should therefore treat this recruitment as all-India service, not location-specific employment.

Admit Card, Result Updates and Documents to Keep Ready

The notification says admit cards and call letters for recruitment stages will be uploaded on the official SSB recruitment website and the main SSB website. No offline call letter process is described. As of now, the next stage dates are not announced in the notification itself.

Candidates should keep the following ready for later stages:

• Matriculation certificate for name and date of birth
• All educational and technical qualification certificates
• Registration proof for nursing candidates, where applicable
