Jharkhand JTET 2026 is now live on the official exam portal, and this is the main update most candidates were waiting for: the state has published the JHTET 2026 framework and opened the application window for eligible teaching aspirants. If you want to become eligible for primary teacher posts for Classes 1 to 5 or upper primary teacher posts for Classes 6 to 8 in Jharkhand, this is the exam that matters first.

The official rulebook for JHTET 2026 has been issued through the School Education and Literacy Department, while the Jharkhand Academic Council is hosting the exam information on its portal. The online application schedule being circulated through the portal-linked updates runs from 21 April 2026 to 21 May 2026. The examination date, admit card schedule and result date are still awaited.

What usually confuses applicants is not the form itself but the eligibility combinations. JHTET allows multiple qualification routes based on Paper 1 or Paper 2, teacher category and training background such as D.El.Ed, B.Ed, B.El.Ed or Special Education. This guide puts the official rules into simple language so you can quickly check whether you are eligible, what fee applies, which paper to choose and what to expect in the exam.

Who can apply for JTET 2026

To appear in Jharkhand JTET 2026, the candidate must be an Indian citizen and must satisfy the paper-wise academic and training qualifications laid down in the JHTET 2026 rules.

There are two levels:

  • Paper 1: for candidates seeking eligibility for primary level teaching, Classes 1 to 5
  • Paper 2: for candidates seeking eligibility for upper primary level teaching, Classes 6 to 8

A candidate may appear for one level or both, provided the required qualifications for each level are met.

Paper 1 eligibility for Classes 1 to 5

A candidate for Paper 1 can qualify through any one of the officially permitted routes. The main routes are:

  • Senior Secondary or equivalent with at least 50% marks and 2-year D.El.Ed for candidates admitted to training on or after 09 December 2007
  • Senior Secondary or equivalent with at least 45% marks and 2-year D.El.Ed under the older NCTE norms for candidates admitted before 09 December 2007
  • Senior Secondary or equivalent with at least 50% marks and 4-year B.El.Ed
  • Senior Secondary or equivalent with at least 50% marks and 2-year Diploma in Special Education
  • Graduation with 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education

Reserved categories including SC, ST, PVTG, BC-1, BC-2 and Divyang candidates get 5% relaxation in the prescribed minimum marks, subject to the rules.

Paper 2 eligibility for Classes 6 to 8

Paper 2 eligibility is broader because it covers upper primary teaching and different subject categories. The main qualification routes include:

  • Graduation with 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education
  • Graduation with at least 50% marks and B.Ed for candidates covered under the applicable NCTE norms after 29 July 2011
  • Graduation with at least 45% marks and B.Ed under the older applicable norms
  • Senior Secondary or equivalent with at least 50% marks and 4-year B.El.Ed
  • Senior Secondary or equivalent with at least 50% marks and 4-year B.A.Ed or B.Sc.Ed
  • Graduation with at least 50% marks and B.Ed in Special Education
  • Postgraduate with at least 55% marks or equivalent grade and 3-year integrated B.Ed-M.Ed, where applicable under the rules

For upper primary level, the rules also separately discuss subject suitability for Mathematics and Science teacher, Social Science teacher and Language teacher categories. Candidates should match their graduation subjects with the teacher category they intend to claim later.

Age limit and relaxation

The minimum age to appear in JHTET is 21 years as on 1 August of the exam year. The upper age limit follows the Jharkhand government norms applicable to state service.

The 2026 rules also mention special relaxation points:

  • Para teachers working under the Jharkhand education project framework may receive upper age relaxation equal to their contractual service period, subject to the rule ceiling, and up to 58 years in the specified case
  • All candidates are to be given a one-time upper age relaxation by leaving one year in the gap between the previous eligibility test and the upcoming one, as explained in the rule example for the 2026 cycle

If you are applying near the upper age boundary, checking the detailed notification before submission is essential.

Paper structure, language options and syllabus direction

Paper 1 includes Child Development and Pedagogy, Language I, Language II, Mathematics and Environmental Studies. Paper 2 includes Child Development and Pedagogy, Language I, Language II and one subject block based on teacher category.

For Language I, candidates choose from Hindi, Sanskrit, Urdu and English, with special rules for Urdu teacher categories where Urdu becomes compulsory as one language choice. Language II is chosen from the notified regional or tribal languages listed in the schedule attached to the rules.

For Paper 2, the optional subject block varies:

  • Mathematics and Science teacher category
  • Social Science teacher category
  • Language teacher or other teacher category, which has to choose the relevant optional block as allowed in the rules

The official syllabus PDF is available separately on the JAC exam portal and should be downloaded before starting preparation because the regional and tribal language choices are district-linked.

How to apply online

  1. Open the JHTET 2026 page on the official JAC exam portal.
  2. Read the press advertisement, notification and syllabus links first.
  3. Select the online application link once active on the portal.
  4. Complete registration with the required personal details.
  5. Fill in academic, training and category details exactly as per certificates.
  6. Choose Paper 1, Paper 2 or both, depending on eligibility.
  7. Upload documents and pay the applicable fee.
  8. Submit the form and save the confirmation page.

Because subject claims and teacher category implications matter later, candidates should not guess their eligibility route while filling the form. Match your training qualification and marks with the exact rule position first.

Admit card, result and certificate validity

The admit card release date has not been announced yet. It is expected to be published on the official JAC exam portal before the examination.

The JHTET certificate issued to qualified candidates will remain valid for a lifetime. The rules also state that the lifetime validity provision applies to earlier Jharkhand Teacher Eligibility Test certificates from 2013 and 2016 as well.

The rules further make two practical points that candidates should remember:

  • JHTET is only an eligibility test and does not create a direct right to appointment
  • A candidate may appear again in later cycles to improve marks
