NHPC Limited has released Advertisement No. NH/Rectt./01/2026 for engagement of 182 apprentices for one year across multiple power stations, projects and one regional office. The vacancies are spread across Graduate, Diploma and ITI apprentice categories, and the notification covers engineering as well as a few non-engineering and allied health roles such as HR Executive, Finance Executive, PR Executive, Rajbhasha Assistant, Nursing Assistant, Physiotherapy Assistant and Supervisor (HR).

This recruitment is not for a single state or one unit. The apprenticeship slots are distributed across Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh and the Region Office Jammu. Because of that, the notice also lays down a preference order in selection, starting with project affected families, then district candidates, then candidates from the same State or UT, and finally other States or UTs if vacancies still remain.

Before applying, candidates should check three things carefully: whether their qualification matches the exact trade, whether they meet the 18 to 30 years age rule, and whether they are ready with NATS or NAPS registration details and scanned documents. NHPC has clearly stated that there will be no interview, multiple applications for more than one region or trade will be rejected, and candidates who have already undergone apprenticeship training for one year or more are not eligible.

Vacancy breakup by NHPC location

The 182 apprenticeship slots are spread across 9 NHPC locations. This matters because the preference rule in selection is partly linked to the district and State or UT of the project location.

Who can apply and minimum eligibility

Candidates who hold the required qualification for the relevant apprentice trade and are medically fit under the Apprentice Act can apply. The minimum qualification is not the same for every slot because NHPC has separate trade-wise eligibility.

  • Graduate apprentice trades require the relevant degree such as B.E., B.Tech., B.Sc. Engineering, B.Com, BBA, B.Sc. Nursing, BPT, MBA, PGDM or equivalent, depending on the trade.
  • Diploma apprentice trades require the relevant diploma such as Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, E&C, Nursing, Pharmacy or X-Ray Technology.
  • ITI apprentice trades require ITI in the concerned trade such as Electrician, Plumber, Fitter, Machinist, Welder, Carpenter or COPA.

Candidates awaiting final results are not eligible. Candidates who have already undergone apprenticeship training for one year or more are also not eligible. Applicants must be Indian citizens and should possess qualifications from recognized institutes or universities.

Trade-wise qualification and stipend

NHPC has listed 26 apprentice trades with corresponding qualifications and stipend levels. The stipend differs by category.

Selection process and merit formula

NHPC has clearly stated that there will be no interview. Eligible candidates will be selected purely on merit based on the weighting formula in the notice.

Apprentice CategoryMerit Weightage
Graduate Apprentice20% from 10th class, 20% from 12th or Diploma whichever is higher, and 60% from aggregate marks in Engineering, Graduation or PG in the relevant subject
Diploma Technician30% from 10th class and 70% from Diploma in Engineering
ITI Technician30% from 10th class and 70% from ITI in the concerned trade

This means your marks in the relevant qualification matter directly. Candidates should make sure the percentage is clearly mentioned in the final mark sheet or certificate. If it is not, NHPC requires an official percentage conversion letter from the institute or university.

Preference rule in selection

NHPC has not said that all candidates across India will compete on a single common list without location preference. Instead, the notice sets out a priority order.

  1. First preference will be given to candidates belonging to Project Affected Families of the respective project, power station or unit.
  2. If sufficient candidates from Project Affected Families are not available, preference will go to candidates belonging to the concerned district or districts of the State or UT where the project or unit is located.
  3. If vacancies still remain, preference will be given to candidates from the same State or UT where the project or unit is located.
  4. If vacancies still persist, remaining positions will be filled on merit from candidates belonging to other States or UTs.

This is important for candidates applying from outside the project district or outside the project State or UT. Eligibility may still exist, but preference in selection will be lower.

How to apply online for NHPC Apprentice Recruitment 2026

The application process has two mandatory stages. Registration on the apprenticeship portal alone is not enough, and applying only on the NHPC site without apprenticeship registration is also not enough.

  1. For ITI trades, register on the NAPS portal.
  2. For Graduate, Degree and Diploma trades, register on the NATS portal.
  3. Complete or update your profile and upload the required documents on the apprenticeship portal.
  4. After getting the NAPS or NATS registration or enrolment number, visit the NHPC website and go to the Career section.
  5. Open the Engagement of Apprentice link and apply online for the relevant region, state and trade.
  6. Submit only one application for one region, state and trade of your choice.

NHPC has stated that applications through any mode other than the official online process will not be accepted. Candidates submitting multiple applications or applying for more than one region, state or trade will be rejected.

Documents required for the online application

Before starting the form, keep the required documents scanned and ready. NHPC has specifically listed the following:

  • Copy of the completed apprenticeship registration or enrolment form from NATS or NAPS
  • Scanned copies of educational certificates and mark sheets
  • Proof of age, usually the matriculation certificate
  • SC, ST or latest OBC NCL certificate in Government of India format, if applicable
  • Recent colour passport-size photograph
  • Signature

If the final mark sheet does not clearly mention percentage, upload the institute or university percentage conversion letter. If the specialization is not clearly shown in the degree, diploma or ITI certificate, upload a supporting letter or certificate from the institute or university.

Important rules candidates should not ignore

The official notice contains several conditions that can affect candidature even after form submission.

  • Incomplete applications or applications without proper documents will be rejected.
  • False information or ineligible claims can lead to disqualification at any stage.
  • Vacancies may increase or decrease depending on requirement.
  • Apprentices will have no claim for extension of training or employment in NHPC.
  • Management reserves the right to amend terms and conditions.
  • Selected trainees will be published on the NHPC website.
  • The apprenticeship contract will be generated on the NATS or apprenticeshipindia portal, whichever is applicable.
  • Selected candidates must accept the offer by email and sign the contract online to complete the process.

For candidates who want a simple way to avoid rejection, the safest approach is to apply for only one location and trade, match the exact qualification carefully, and ensure all supporting documents are legible and consistent.
