SSB ASI Recruitment 2026 overview

Sashastra Seema Bal has invited online applications for 7 Assistant Sub Inspector posts in the paramedical cadre. The advertised roles are ASI (Radiographer), ASI (Pharmacist), ASI (Operation Theatre Technician), and ASI (Dental Technician).

Eligibility criteria for each ASI post

The age band for all four posts is 18 to 27 years. The educational and professional qualifications are post-specific.

• ASI (Radiographer): 12th pass from a recognized board, 2-year diploma in Medical Imaging Technology or Radiography from a recognized institute, and at least 1 year experience as a Radiographer in a radiology imaging centre or a 100-bedded hospital or institution recognized by the Central Government or State Government.

• ASI (Pharmacist): 12th pass from a recognized board, 2-year diploma in Pharmacy from an institution recognized by the Central Government or State Government, registration as Pharmacist under the Pharmacy Act, 1948, and at least 1 year experience as Pharmacist in a minimum 100-bedded hospital or recognized institution.

• ASI (Operation Theatre Technician): 12th pass from a recognized board, 2-year diploma in Operation Theatre Technology or Technician from a recognized institute, and at least 1 year work experience as Operation Theatre Technician in a minimum 100-bedded hospital or recognized institution.

• ASI (Dental Technician): 12th pass from a recognized board, 2-year diploma in Dental Hygienist from an institution recognized by the Central Government or State Government, registration with the Dental Council of India, and at least 1 year work experience in the dental unit of a dental hospital or a minimum 100-bedded hospital or institution recognized by the Central Government or State Government.

Candidates must possess the required certificates by the applicable closing date for receipt of applications.

Age limit and relaxation

The normal age limit for all the advertised ASI posts is 18 to 27 years.

Candidates claiming age relaxation must submit the prescribed certificate at the time of documentation. SSB also accepts the matriculation certificate for determination of date of birth and name.

Pay scale and application fee

All the Assistant Sub Inspector posts in this advertisement carry Level 5 pay in the pay matrix, with basic pay of Rs. 29,200 to Rs. 92,300. Selected candidates are also entitled to admissible allowances such as dearness allowance, ration money allowance, house rent allowance and other allowances under SSB and government rules.

The examination fee is non-refundable and can be paid online through net banking, credit card, debit card or UPI.

Selection process

Candidates whose applications are found in order will be issued admit cards through the SSB recruitment website and called for the recruitment process. Biometric attendance, digital photograph, signature and thumb impression may be taken during the process.

4. Final merit list

For these ASI posts, final merit is prepared on the basis of written examination marks. Candidates may qualify the medical stage and still miss final selection if their written score is not high enough for the available vacancies.

Physical standard test requirements

SSB conducts a Physical Standard Test before the written examination stage. The basic standards for candidates not covered by any special relaxation category are as follows:

The notification provides separate relaxed height and chest standards for candidates from Scheduled Tribe categories, certain North Eastern states, Gorkha territorial administration areas, and some other notified groups. Candidates seeking PST relaxation must produce the required community or domicile certificate at the time of the test.

Weight should be proportionate to height and age. Overweight or underweight status can affect fitness assessment at the Detailed Medical Examination stage.

Written exam pattern and qualifying marks

The written examination is a computer based test of 3 hours duration carrying 150 marks. It consists of 150 multiple choice objective questions.

Minimum qualifying marks are 50 percent for General, EWS, OBC and Ex-Servicemen candidates, and 45 percent for SC and ST candidates.

The official notice states that final merit will be prepared on the basis of marks obtained in the written examination.

Documentation, medical examination and final merit

After the written examination, candidates up to three times the number of vacancies in each category are shortlisted for documentation and Detailed Medical Examination. Original documents claimed in the online application are checked at this stage, and failure to produce them can lead to cancellation of candidature.

Candidates declared fit in Detailed Medical Examination do not automatically get appointment. If a candidate is declared unfit, a Review Medical Examination option is available as per the rules laid down in the notification.

Final selection is prepared category-wise and in order of merit after completion of Review Medical Examination. Where candidates secure equal marks, preference is given first to higher marks in Part II technical subject, then to the older candidate, and then by alphabetical order of names in English.

The notification also states that there will be no reserve merit list or waiting panel.
